Ethanol is a type of alcohol that is commonly used as a fuel or solvent. It is produced by fermenting and distilling crops such as corn, sugarcane, and grains. Ethanol is a renewable, clean-burning fuel that can be blended with gasoline to create a fuel called E10, which is 10% ethanol and 90% gasoline. Higher blends, such as E15 and E85, are also available but have limited availability and may not be suitable for all vehicles. Ethanol is also used in the production of alcoholic beverages and as a solvent in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries.
